In today’s world, the construction and inner workings of a product is often concealed behind sleek design. But hiding how things work denies the user the chance to fully connect with the product. Openness and transparency, by contrast, invites the user in, and allows for a closer bond to be formed.
In this door handle, the ‘lock and key’ mechanism escapes the door pane and is connected to the handle in full view. The result: clear and logical unity, a visual marriage of function and form.

Our winning designs are on show for two months in gallery YKSI at Strijp-S, the creative & cultural centre of Eindhoven.
At the invitation of the city of Maastricht, Shut the door, Have a Seat is exhibited at the expo Greetings from Maastricht together with several other designs from Studio Dirk Ploos van Amstel.
Shut the Door, Have a Seat is presented at Dutch Design Week 2017 in Eindhoven under the theme Material Designers.
